Former club captain Mikel Arteta is set to become the new Arsenal manager this week, with the club's hierarchy hoping to conclude talks soon.
The Manchester City assistant manager has already held talks with managing director Vinai Venkatesham and chief negotiator Huss Fahmy at his own house following the win against the Gunners on Sunday night.
For Arteta, it is the second time he has come close to becoming Arsenal's manager, after missing out when Unai Emery was appointed following Arsene Wenger's exit in 2018.
With Freddie Ljungberg taking temporary charge of the first team following his appointment in the summer as assistant manager, results have not improved as hoped when dismissing Emery.
As such, Arsenal are moving quickly to put the next manager in place as soon as possible, with other candidates such as Brendan Rodgers unavailable.
Ljungberg had previously been in charge of the Under-23s side after rejoining the club in the summer of 2018, impressing with his handling of the young stars.

Ljungberg has made an impact on the first team players since becoming assistant to Emery, with Nicolas Pepe praising him after the defeat to Man City at the Emirates Stadium.
