Freddie Ljungberg 'most likely' Unai Emery successor if Arsenal boss is sacked

Freddie Ljungberg is reportedly likely to succeed Unai Emery as Arsenal manager if the club opt to pull the trigger and sack the Spaniard.

Emery is under increasing pressure after a run of six Premier League games without a win.

Goal report that staff at Arsenal "expect" Emery to be removed from his role after a miserable run of form.

And they claim Ljungberg, promoted to the first team coaching staff this summer, will be the favourite to take the job, at least on a temporary basis.

Ljungberg has reportedly made a positive impression amongst first-team players since stepping up from the Under-23s and gained the trust of senior players amid reports of Emery losing power.

Massimiliano Allegri is reportedly not looking to return to management until the summer as he continues to learn English during his sabbatical after leaving Juventus .

Mikel Arteta is also unlikely to leave Manchester City during the middle of the campaign, with Pep Guardiola addressing speculation linking him with a return to north London this week.

Ljungberg has reportedly made a good impression since becoming assistant coach (PA)

"Unai Emery is the manager of Arsenal," Guardiola told reporters.

"Of course (Arteta) will be a manager sooner or later. We are going to finish the season but in the future I don't know what's going to happen."

With Mauricio Pochettino wanted elsewhere, including by Bayern Munich, and a controversial choice having just left rivals Tottenham , options might be limited at the present time.

As a result, Ljungberg could be handed the reigns until the end of the season, with a chance to prove himself in a managerial role after a rapid rise so far in his coaching career.
