Freddie Ljungberg lifts lid on dressing room talks with Arsenal chiefs after West Ham win

Arsenal caretaker boss Freddie Ljungberg has lifted the lid on dressing room talks with Arsenal chiefs after their win over West Ham .

The Gunners came from behind the claim their first win in 10 as they beat the Hammers 3-1 at the London Stadium on Monday night.

It was Ljungberg's first win since taking over as caretaker boss on a game-by-game basis after the sacking of Unai Emery - and Arsenal chiefs were clearly delighted with the result.

Speaking ahead of their Europa League clash with Standard Liege, Ljungberg revealed Edu and Raul Sanllehi visited him in the dressing room immediately after the game to give him a seal of approval for his work.

It is understood their pressure-relieving win over the Hammers has ensured club bosses will take their time to appoint a new permanent manager.

"Everybody was in the dressing room after the game except the owner" Ljungberg said.

"They were very happy with the result and the victory.”

But Ljungberg insisted he has not held discussions over taking the job on a full-time basis.

"It's not a conversation I've had with the bosses," Ljunberg said when asked if he believed he was in the running.

"My job is to go from day to day, game to game, to try to help this fantastic club. That's what I try to do. All of those decisions are up to the top dogs.

"What the club decides to do, or who they choose, it is totally up to them but I stay totally out of it."

Former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has been linked with the job after being sacked by Napoli on Tuesday night.

Addressing speculation regarding the experienced Italian, Ljungberg said: "I try just to concentrate on my job.

The Gunners head to Belgian with a young squad with their spot in the knockout stages all but assured, although they still want to secure top spot in the group to be seeded into the next round.

"We have a few injuries" Ljungberg explained. "We’ve played a lot of games lately, we have another game on Sunday.

“We brought a lot of firepower here. We have younger players that played in the group stages, it’s a big game and we’re here to get a result. We have a lot of respect for the opponents.

“It’s a very important game for us. We know what’s at stake. They probably need to win the game.

“We play a lot of games. Sometimes we have to change. We have a lot of respect for the game. We don’t take it lightly. We want to win and get a result.”
