Freddie Ljungberg confirms he's staying at Arsenal 'to work with Mikel Arteta'

Freddie Ljungberg says he will stay on at Arsenal as a member of Mikel Arteta’s backroom team.

Ljungberg served as Unai Emery’s assistant before taking over as interim boss following the Spaniard’s departure at the end of November.

The Swede oversaw five games in charge and will lead Arsenal out for a final time against Everton on Saturday with Arteta set to officially begin his duties the next day.

Ljungberg appears set for a role under the Spaniard, writing on Twitter: “The message from me is still the same, get behind us and support the team!

“It’s been an honour to have helped the club I love for the last few weeks and I am excited to work with Mikel Arteta and his staff moving forwards.”

Moments before Ljungberg’s tweet however, Arteta wasn’t quite so committal over the Swede’s future when speaking at a press conference following his return to the club.

"I will sit down and have a coffee with him first,” Arteta said when quizzed on Ljungberg’s tweet.
