Freddie Ljungberg Arsenal credentials questioned as former Celtic star John Hartson puts the boot in

Former Celtic striker John Hartson has questioned the appointment of Freddie Ljungberg as Arsenal 's interim manager.

The Gunners announced today that they have sacked Unai Emery, with the Swede taking temporary charge as they look for a replacement.

The decision was taken after Arsenal went seven games without a win in all competitions, but Hartson isn't sure they've chosen the right caretaker.

He wrote on Twitter: "Ljungberg was a great help to Emery last night.. sat down for 90 mins.

"Surely you get in the manager's ear if you can see what's going wrong... Emery had to go."

Ljungberg is himself a former Celtic player, having made seven appearances for the Hoops in the 2010-11 season.

He was on Emery's staff, with the club announcing this morning that the Spaniard had been relieved of his duties.

A statement said: "We announce today that the decision has been taken to part company with our head coach Unai Emery and his coaching team.

"The decision has been taken due to results and performances not being at the level required.

"We have asked Freddie Ljungberg to take responsibility for the first team as interim head coach. We have full confidence in Freddie to take us forward."
