Freddie Ljungberg admits Arsenal have a defensive problem after Norwich draw

Freddie Ljungberg has admitted that Arsenal have a defensive problem after watching his side draw with Norwich.

Swede Ljungberg started life as the Gunners' interim head coach with a stuttering 2-2 draw with the Canaries at Carrow Road.

The home side twice took the lead only for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to hit back on both occasions - firstly from the penalty spot before lashing in after a corner.

But the Norwich goals from Teemo Pukki and Todd Cantwell are what the Arsenal hierarchy will take note of - with both coming on the back of poor defending.

Pukki took advantage of losing Shkodran Mustafi with a run before the German and David Luiz stood back as the Finn opened the scoring.

Before Cantwell was able to run into the box unimpeded to slot into the bottom corner - with plenty of other examples of shoddy defensive work from Mustafi, Luiz, Callum Chambers and Sead Kolasinac throughout the match.

And Ljungberg has confessed there are issues on the transition.

“We have a problem on the transition and I want to fix that," Ljungberg said.

“I hope the club knows what I can and can’t do. I’m very honoured they have trusted me to do this.

“I’m just trying to make managing Arsenal as simple as possible.

“I’ve been here last year and of course I have an opinion on how we can play and everyone has a fair chance.”

The Gunners have now failed to win any of their last eight games in all competitions, with their last Premier League victory coming at the beginning of October.

They are eighth in the table and seven points adrift of the top four but Ljungberg has insisted that qualifying for the Champions League is still possible.

“Top four is 100% achievable.

“I was proud but I think we started well and I expected us to take the lead.

“It’s easy to see what we have to work on.

“I’m extremely proud of the players for coming back twice. The end of the game was too open for my liking.”
