Freddie Kitchens: ‘We’ve got to do a better job of coaching these guys’

Freddie Kitchens was not happy after watching his Browns get trounced on national television, 31-3, by the San Francisco 49ers on Monday night. The Browns coach faced the music after the game in his press conference.

After a subdued opening statement where Kitchens acknowledged the 49ers dominating “in every phase of the game,” the rookie coach stated the obvious.

“We’ve got to do a better job mentally; we’ve got to do a better job of coaching these guys,” he said.

Kitchens later lamented the same point:

“They coached better than us, they played better than us in all areas.”

It was the recurring theme for Kitchens after the game, something he touched upon in nearly every answer he gave in one form or another. And he’s right. The Browns players weren’t good, but they did not receive good coaching either.
