Freddie Kitchens rates as this offseason’s best head coaching hire

There were eight different head coaching hires around the NFL this season. A full quarter of all teams will take to 2019 with a new coach in charge.

The Cleveland Browns made one of those eight moves, and according to Touchdown Wire, GM John Dorsey made the best hiring. Freddie Kitchens rates as the best decision of the new head coaches.

Why?

The explanation draws upon Kitchens’ chemistry with the team and positive influence upon the Browns as the offensive coordinator down the stretch last fall.

The Browns avoided the dreaded spot where you decide to hire the interim coach (Gregg Williams, in this case) because of short-term success. They went with a fresh face in their offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens, who revived an offense that has been dormant for what seems like decades. Baker Mayfield and Kitchens have chemistry off the bat. That’s critical for a team that feels as if it is on the rise.

There is a note of caution at the end, however:

“Though we have heard this before.”
