Freddie Kitchens noncommittal on whether starters will play vs. Redskins

The preseason opener is Thursday night, but will the fans at FirstEnergy Stadium see Myles Garrett, Odell Beckham Jr. and the rest of the starters when the Browns host the Washington Redskins?

It seems Cleveland coach Freddie Kitchens has yet to decide. Or he is keeping his options open, at least.

When asked after Tuesday’s practice whether the starters would play much on Thursday, the rookie coach left it up in the air.

“I do not know yet,” Kitchens said. “We are just trying to get through tomorrow.”

Kitchens was then asked specifically about Beckham and Baker Mayfield. Again, Kitchens said, “I have not decided.”

He left the door open for them to play in his next answer. Kitchens said he sees the benefit and even the necessity of getting the starters some work together against foreign competition.

“I think they definitely need to play together, and we will monitor it as it goes along from the standpoint of their timing and stuff like that,” Kitchens said with more animation than his prior answers.

The Browns host the Redskins on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
