Freddie Kitchens likes what he sees from rookie QB David Blough

Relax, Browns fans. There is no competition for Baker Mayfield as the team’s starting quarterback.

However, there could be a battle brewing below Baker on the Browns depth chart. Undrafted rookie David Blough from Purdue is aiming to stick and beat out AAF refugee Garrett Gilbert for the potential third QB spot behind Mayfield and veteran backup Drew Stanton. Blough got off to an impressive start in Cleveland’s rookie minicamp, according to head coach Freddie Kitchens.

“He is accurate,” Kitchens said of Blough in his press conference capping the Saturday workout session. “He is relentless. Some of the characteristics you would like in quarterbacks. I don’t know how much you can teach accuracy. You can fool with it a little bit, but if they are accurate in college, they are usually going to be accurate in the NFL. He is competitive.”

Blough completed 66 percent of his passes in 2018 for the Boilermakers and had an impressive turn at the Shrine Game week. He went undrafted but appears off to a good start in his quest to make the NFL.
