Freddie Kitchens: ‘If you’re looking to blame someone, blame me’

Freddie Kitchens pointed the finger right back at himself in the wake of his Browns’ frustrating 20-13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. While parts of the team played well, several poor offensive choices and execution doomed the Browns’ first appearance on “Sunday Night Football” since 2008.

After the game, Kitchens addressed his performance in his press conference.

“If you’re looking to blame someone, blame me,” Kitchens said. “Go write your article and say I messed the game up, because it isn’t looking like last year.”

Thanks for the advice, Coach. It’s good advice after watching the Browns once again reflect the hallmarks of a poorly coached team. Among those:

  • penalties due to mental errors
  • inability to adjust to the opponent’s game plan
  • terrible play calls

At least Kitchens knows he had a bad game.

“I did not think I did very good,” he admitted. “I didn’t do a good enough job as a coach of putting these guys in the right situation.”

Kitchens is a rookie head coach. That’s not an excuse; it’s reality. And it’s one Kitchens and his Browns need to grow from quickly.
