Freddie Kitchens: ‘I don’t need a big-name, star-type’ wide receiver

One of the prevailing theories for the Cleveland Browns this offseason is that the team covets a big-time, No. 1 wideout with star power. New head coach Freddie Kitchens doesn’t see it that way.

In his combine press conference, Kitchens refuted any notion that the Browns are searching for a star at wide receiver.

“No. I don’t need a big-name, star-type anything to power anything,” Kitchens declared. “We need somebody that’s a good football player, that it’s important to him to be a good football player and in every aspect of his life and his career, in all areas it’s important for him to succeed, and that’s how you get a better team.

His own lower-profile status plays into Kitchens’ thoughts here,

“But as far as a big name, I’d be kind of not … I’m not a big name. but anyway.”

Kitchens did say he had interest in bringing back Breshad Perriman, who is a free agent at wide receiver.
