Freddie Kitchens: ‘I definitely will’ give Antonio Callaway another shot

Antonio Callaway’s return from his four-game suspension was a nightmare. The Browns wide receiver looked lost in the offense and dropped a would-be touchdown pass that would have changed the entire complexion of the Monday Night Football loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Callaway juggled a Baker Mayfield throw that hit him in both hands, ultimately tossing it into the waiting arms of 49ers CB K’Waun Williams. Six points one way wound up being six points the other after the 49ers cashed in on Williams’ INT return to midfield.

In his Tuesday conference call, Browns coach Freddie Kitchens showed support for his young wideout.

“I felt like Antonio was ready to play so we played him,” Kitchens declared. “He is one of our better players so when our players are healthy and they are eligible to play, they are going to play. In doing that, we move our receivers around. We have always moved our receivers around. Antonio will be better moving forward.”

When asked a follow-up on if he will give Callaway chances to play a significant role again, Kitchens did not hesitate,

“I definitely will.”
