Freddie Kitchens’ combine press conference shows how dramatically things have changed for the Browns

New Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens faced many questions during his NFL Scouting Combine press conference on Wednesday. Unlike Browns coaches of the past, he didn’t have to answer much about the Browns quarterback situation.

Finally, the questions are already answered.

This is my 11th NFL Scouting Combine, and I’ve stood in front of the Browns head coach for that particular year every time. This was the first time I can recall the very first question to the coach du jour not being about the state of the Cleveland quarterback situation.

Nor was QB the second question. Or the third.

In fact, it took well over 10 minutes before anyone asked Kitchens about any quarterback. And that question, from a national reporter and not anyone in the Cleveland media, dealt with how the head coach felt about Baker Mayfield becoming a media star in the offseason.

Far more time was devoted to a question on Drew Stanton as the backup and if he is happy with the veteran as the No. 2 or if competition will be brought in (yes and most likely, respectively).

That was it. Far more time was devoted to the wide receivers, running backs (much of the first 5 minutes dealt with Kareem Hunt) and Greg Robinson coming back at left tackle.

It’s a new world for the Browns and the media covering the team. Finally.
