Fred VanVleet had the best answer for Kawhi Leonard’s free agency decision

Kawhi Leonard, as you probably heard a million times this NBA season, is facing a major decision to make in free agency as he heads into the summer.

Leonard could elect to stay with the Raptors longterm — something the entire city has seemingly lobbied for. But there was always a chance that Leonard would leave after one season, and the Raptors were willing to take that chance in pursuit of a championship.

Though the risk paid off, Raptors players are now facing questions about Leonard’s impending free agency. After the Game 6 win, Leonard and Kyle Lowry both joked about the decision. During a Sunday press conference, Raptors guard Fred VanVleet offered his own take on the situation. And it was epic.

He said:

“If he’s on another team, then we’ll have to kick his ass next year, but hopefully he’ll be back.”

Of course, losing Leonard would be a huge blow to the Raptors — even if the team was 17-5 without him during the regular season.

Still, you have to respect VanVleet’s answer. That was great.
