Fred told why he deserved to be Manchester United's match-winner in Ralf Rangnick's first game

Fred has been lauded for his silencing his critics with a match-winning display for Manchester United.

The Brazilian midfielder has come under pressure for his performances this season, with his partnership with Scott McTominay often a target for fans' ire during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's reign.

However, after a slight positional tweak under caretaker manager Michael Carrick, the 28-year-old was the hero for interim boss Ralf Rangnick in his first game with a stunning goal to settle a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace.

Picking up a dangerous position on the edge of the Palace area, Fred took aim with a curler which flew past Eagles' goalkeeper Vicente Guaita and into the top corner.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, former Everton and Scotland player Don Hutchinson said: "Just at the point where Man United were starting to struggle in the game, they find the breakthrough - and what a goal it is from Fred on his right foot.

"He gets a lot of criticism and I think he's extremely honest, he puts shifts in, he works as hard as he possibly can.

"What a strike that is. [Mason] Greenwood's trying to wriggle to take the shot on. He starts the shot quite central and it's always going away from Guaita into the top corner. What a strike."
