The Jacksonville Jaguars will enter 2020 hoping to get their first representative in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as Tony Boselli has been a semifinalist for the past four seasons. We’ll find out if he will once again make the cut as a semifinalist for the upcoming class later this month.
Another former Jags player who fans have long felt is overdue to be voted into the Hall of Fame is running back Fred Taylor, who has voiced his displeasure about being overlooked in the past. In an interview with former Jags teammate Maurice Jones-Drew on NFL Network’s “NFL Total Access,” Taylor echoed his sentiments by saying he believes he belongs in the Hall.
“Obviously, I think I belong,” Taylor said to Jones-Drew. “It’s not in my hands. I think the voters, after doing a deep dive, they will understand that I belong there, too. I really believe I had a solid career, and hopefully, the writers will understand that one day.”
During his career, Taylor accumulated 2,534 carries for 11,695 yards and 66 touchdowns, making him the team’s all-time leading rusher. He also had 290 receptions for 2,384 yards and eight touchdowns.
Taylor rushed for over 1,000 yards in seven of his 13 years in the league and was a huge part of the Jags’ success in the early years of the franchise. As a result, he was among 122 modern-era candidates for the upcoming Hall of Fame class alongside Jones-Drew and Boselli.
While he might have a hard time getting into the Hall of Fame in the eyes of some, Taylor was ranked No. 1 on our list of the top 25 Jaguars of all time.
