Fred sets Manchester United Champions League challenge

Fred has reiterated his desire to help Manchester United return to the Champions League this season.

United got to the quarter-finals of the competition last term but are back competing in the Europa League after finishing sixth in the Premier League.

The Brazilian midfielder became accustomed to playing in the top European club competition with former club Shakhtar but faces a difficult challenge with United to do so next season.

"When everyone has the same goal, to win titles and be in the Champions League that’s when we will return to the place we belong," Fred told De Sola.

"A place where Manchester United should have never left.”

In order to secure qualification for the Champions League United will either need to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League, or do so by winning the Europa League this season.

Solskjaer's side have struggled for consistency throughout the season but Fred insists the Norwegian needs time to prove his worth as manager at Old Trafford.

Fred added: “He’s a great person, great coach. It's a new job, a young coach, has his ups and his downs, like every coach and every player has. But he’s improving and I’m sure he will improve a lot and helps get where we want to be.”
