Fred sends Manchester United fans into meltdown after missing perfect chance to beat Chelsea

Manchester United fans were sent into meltdown on Sunday afternoon when Fred missed a perfect chance to beat Chelsea.

Michael Carrick dropped Cristian Ronaldo to the bench for the Reds' versus Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, which certainly came as a surprise, but that brave decision seemed vindicated when United took the lead thanks to Jadon Sancho's goal in the second half.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka's reckless challenge on Thiago Silva shortly after Sancho's goal would give Chelsea a penalty, though.

With the score level, both sides searched for a match-winner as the game reached the latter stages, but it was actually United that would create a golden opportunity to secure the three points when Fred fortuitously received the ball from Edouard Mendy.

Chelsea's goalkeeper gifted Fred the ball just on the edge of the box, but the Brazilian wasted the chance with a tame chipped effort.

Some fans on social media felt Fred should have passed while others just couldn't believe that he squandered the opportunity.

United have gone unbeaten under caretaker Michael Carrick through two games and Ralf Rangnick's appointment is now imminent.
