Fred opens up on Manchester United partnership with Scott McTominay

Manchester United midfielder Fred admitted he is enjoying playing with Scott McTominay as their midfield partnership continues to blossom.

The pair started together in central midfield for United against both Tottenham and Manchester City in the past few days and both performed well in the two victories.

Fred, who endured a difficult start to his United career, has now started United's last nine Premier League games on the bounce and has been lauded by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for his improvement.

He revealed the morale in the United squad is sky-high after the two triumphs, which have moved the Reds to within five points of the top four.

“We’re playing well together, doing very good games,” Fred told the National.

“It’s nice to play with him, and we can help Man United to win. Today [Saturday] was an important win for us. We’re all very happy, this win cheers us up. I’m sure from now we can rise up the table, but we have to focus and try to win all the games, not just the big ones.”

Fred then claimed the current United side is the fastest team he's been part of. The pace of Daniel James, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial helped Solskjaer's men stun City in the opening half hour of the Manchester derby as the trio connected well with Fred, McTominay and No.10 Jesse Lingard.

“We know how to explore this, it’s a very fast team,” added Fred.

“The fastest I have played in. It’s exciting. We can make the ball to get to Rashford, Antony, DJ and then they can score.

"They can get even faster on the counterattack if I can get them the ball quicker. This is my goal, make the ball to get there even quicker. We did that in the first half, that’s where we won the game.”
