Fred Olsen to restart cruises in July with domestic sailings on its two new ships

Fred Olsen has revealed plans to restart cruise holidays in July, including maiden voyages for new ships Borealis and Bolette.

The cruise line, which has extended its pause in operations until the end of June, will begin with domestic UK cruises, with itineraries across British Isles including the Shetland and Orkney islands, and the Isles of Scilly.

There will be 11 cruises initially on offer onboard both ships departing from Dover and Liverpool, with prices starting from £549pp for four-night sailings.

Borealis will make her big debut on a maiden voyage from Liverpool on July 5, while Bolette will sail on a three-night maiden voyage from Dover on August 16.

The cruise line hasn't yet confirmed whether guests would need to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 to join the sailings.

Peter Deer, Managing Director at Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said in a statement to the Mirror: "By the time we resume sailing in July, we know that a large proportion of UK adults will have received their vaccinations.

"The vaccine is a big advancement for the travel industry, but it must be considered as part of a multi-layered approach.

"The government’s Global Travel Taskforce is expected to deliver an update on April 12, and we are awaiting further guidance from that before we confirm any final requirements with our guests."

It's not the only cruise line set to make a return, starting with domestic cruises.

P&O Cruises this week unveiled its plans for domestic cruises in the UK for the summer - although the company is only opening the sailings to UK residents who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

Earlier this month it was revealed that domestic cruises are set to restart from May 17, the same date when it's hoped that restrictions on foreign travel could lift as part of England's lockdown roadmap.

A number of cruise lines alongside Fred Olsen and P&O Cruises have also unveiled plans for domestic cruises, such as Cunard and Viking Cruises.
