Fred names the Leeds United star he doesn't want Manchester United to face

Fred has joked that he hopes Leeds star Raphinha is not fit to face Manchester United in the Premier League this weekend.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side travel to Elland Road on Sunday afternoon as they look to keep their slim title hopes alive with another win.

United thrashed their old rivals 6-2 when the sides last met in December, but both sides are anticipating a closer encounter when they meet this time around.

Leeds began the week with a 1-1 home draw against Liverpool and midfielder Fred knows all about the threat Marcelo Bielsa's side can offer.

In particular is the threat of Brazilian winger Raphinha who has taken the Premier League by storm during his debut season in English football.

The 24-year-old, who missed the draw with Liverpool, remains a doubt for the meeting with United and Fred admits it would help his side if the star winger can't play.

“Bruno's been talking about Raphinha ever since he arrived. They played together at Sporting,” Fred told official club media.

“He's a great player having an amazing season and a lot of clubs have their eye on him. I met him recently, great guy, excellent player but... I hope he won't be lining up against us! [laughs]

“I wish him a quick recovery and a lot of success in his career. He's a stand-out star player for Leeds so, of course, it's better for us if he's not on the pitch.

“If he does play, we'll look to mark him carefully and work on our game-plan as best as possible. We'll try to nullify his threat to come out on top in this game.”
