Fred hits back at claims he is unhappy at Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Fred has forcefully denied claims that he is unhappy at the club, calling for fans to not get "misled by fake news".

The Brazil international's response comes after reports that a number of players were eyeing an Old Trafford exit.

Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has been in charge for just over a month and has already encountered a number of hurdles both on and off the pitch, as recent performances have drawn criticism with multiple players in the ranks eyeing new pastures.

The 28-year-old has been out of the starting XI in their last two, featuring as a late substitute against Burnley, with the midfielder scoring the winning goal in Rangnick's first Premier League match during the Crystal Palace triumph.

He released a series of tweets on Friday that read: "Over the past few days I have read several fake news involving my name and other MUFC [ Manchester United Football Club ] athletes. I'm not in the habit of answering controversial stuff publicly, but this time I will have to.

"I just want to say that I am very happy here and I have never expressed any dissatisfaction and the possibility of leaving the club. Don't get misled by fake news. We will continue to work with great dedication to pursue our goals."

Fred was named amongst the players edging into the final 18 months of their current deal but now the midfielder has dismissed claims he is looking for a new club.

Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani are all out of contract in the summer with both Pogba and Lingard set to leave in the summer.

Whilst United trio; Dean Henderson, Eric Bailly and Donny van de Beek have been touted with moves away as their first-team opportunities remain fraught.

Speaking ahead of Monday's FA Cup Third Round tie with Aston Villa, Rangnick said : "We have players with contracts expiring in the summer.

"We have maybe also one or two players who want to leave and are under contract.

"It's about the players dealing with that situation in a professional way. Everybody has the chance to show in training, to show up, and get the chance to play. If this is not the case, then, of course, the player, club and agents need to discuss the situation.

"As far as I can tell, so far the players have been dealing with that in a professional way. I cannot say anything else. If I realise that is not the case I will address that with the players direct.

"This (players wanting out) is not only an issue with a club like Manchester United. When you have a big squad - and we have a big squad - at least, in the last two games, we had most players available. We had an issue with three centre-backs missing out against Wolves, but in general we had most of the players available, apart from Paul Pogba."
