Fred gives verdict on Manchester United position and change in pressing

Fred has outlined how a slight change in his Manchester United position has brought results of late, hinting what he might offer moving forward under Ralf Rangnick.

Having come under mounting pressure before the November international break, United finally parted company with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last month.

Michael Carrick took charge against Villarreal and Chelsea with United confirming that the caretaker boss will oversee his third and final game against Arsenal on Thursday night (8.15pm kick off).

It's hoped that Rangnick will be granted his work permit in time for the game against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Fred was a trusted part of the engine room for the majority of Solskjaer's three-year tenure.

However, just like his former manager, the Brazilian came in for criticism for his performances early in the season alongside fellow midfielder Scott McTominay. But a positional tweak under Carrick — as part of a higher press from United — has resulted in an upturn for Fred and the side.

Speaking about the last two games to the MUFC website, Fred said: "It was good for me, because the press is important in the game.

"It's not my assists [for Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho vs Villarreal], but I was really happy with my two steals of the ball which resulted in both of our goals during the game.

"It was really important and I hope to continue putting this work in as it's important for both me and the team."

On the United huddle before the Villarreal game, he added: "It was not in the plan, but the Brazil national team, always before the game, we come together.

"I talked to the guys and everyone came in together. Was it my idea? Yes!

"It's difficult, because we have a big squad and lots of players, so it's important we’re all together. Villarreal it was okay — we played well and we won — but now we need to change our minds. We know that the Premier League is difficult, so we need to play well and win the next games."
