Fred explains what motivates Manchester United vs Liverpool FC and Man City

Fred says Manchester United have more 'blood in their eyes' when it comes to playing Liverpool than Manchester City.

United have long been rivals with Liverpool, with the clubs regularly competing for the same trophies and league titles. The rivalry with City is no less competitive, although United had a long period ahead of the Blues before their takeover in 2008.

Now, United have to watch as Liverpool and City are both challenging for the Premier League title as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men try to break into the top four. Still, United are one of just two sides to take points off Liverpool this season and won three of their four meetings against City.

Discussing the rivalries, Fred says the history with both Liverpool and City means United have 'blood in their eyes' against both opponents - but perhaps more so against Liverpool.

He told Esporte Interativo: “It’s a regional classic that is very strong, you know. Which is the classic of the city.

“So really when you have a game against City, you really have blood in your eyes.

“Of course, against Liverpool it’s even bigger, you have more blood in your eyes, because there’s the whole history that involves everything, the history of the two teams is huge in world football.

“But against City it’s also a great game and our city classic. You have to show who rules the city.”
