Fred Couples sells Brentwood home off-market for about $6 million

March 23--Professional golfer Fred Couples has sold his home in Brentwood in an off-market deal for slightly more than $6 million.

The gated residence, built in Spanish Colonial Revival style in 2003, is distinguished by arched doorways, hardwood and limestone flooring and a courtyard entry. Among spaces is a grand foyer, a step-down living room, a cook's kitchen, a library, four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms within 5,661 square feet.

French doors open to grounds containing a loggia, an outdoor living room, a fireplace and a pool and spa. Across from the pool is a detached guesthouse with an additional bedroom en-suite.

Couples purchased the home in April 2012 from former Clippers head coach Mike Dunleavy for $4.557 million, records show. He owns other property in Riverside County.

The recent exchange closed this month for $5.815 million, according to the Multiple Listing Service. The full price, including furnishings, was $6,014,525. David Vertlieb of Sotheby's International Realty represented Couples. Alisa Peterson, also of Sotheby's International Realty, represented the buyer.

Couples, 55, joined the PGA Tour in 1982 and the Champions Tour in 2010. Among his wins are a pair of Players Championships and one major, the 1992 Masters Tournament at Augusta National. He has made more than $32 million on tour for his career.
