Freaky Friday as Forum goes into a spin for Hunter kids

The Forum turned freaky on Friday as more than 30 teams took park in the Variety Spin4Kids charity ride at the University of Newcastle.

The six-hour challenge was being held for the third year and went indoors for the first time after being staged outdoors at Harbour Square on Honeysuckle in 2017 and 2018.

The vibe on the day could only be described as disco meets fitness and many got into the Friday the 13th theme, donning spooky costumes.

It was all for a good cause, raising funds for children of the Hunter Region who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs.

Teams of up to 10 were required to ride non-stop for six hours on a stationary bike. Over $100,000 was raised in the first two years and Variety - the Children's Charity regional head of development Jason Bourke was expecting the tally to surpass $45,000 this year.

"We're extremely thankful to the Newcastle business community and health industry for getting behind Spin 4 Kids this year," Mr Bourke said.

"We're thrilled to have over 30 teams registered and on our way to raising over $45,000 to support Variety's work for kids in need in the Hunter."
