Andy Lonergan on standby as freak Adrian injury leaves Liverpool facing potential goalkeeper crisis

Jurgen Klopp admitted that Liverpool could face a goalkeeper crisis for their trip to Southampton as he revealed that they are sweating on the fitness of their UEFA Super Cup hero Adrian.

The Reds are already without regular first choice Alisson after picking up a calf injury in their opening Premier League game of the season, a 4-1 victory over newly-promoted Norwich City at Anfield but could now be without his new deputy Adrian, who was their match-winner against Chelsea in Istanbul after saving Tammy Abraham's penalty in a 5-4 shoot-out victory following a 2-2 draw.

When asked if Adrian's heroics would be a boost coming in to his new club, Klopp said: “It would help a lot if it was 100% clear that he could play tomorrow because I really don't understand it in the world of social media when we are all on it together, a supporter jumped over something, was chased by some security guys, slipped, and kicked his (Adrian's) ankle.

“Crazy. Yesterday it was swollen, today I spoke to him, he's here and he told me it's much better than yesterday but we have to see.”

If Adrian is forced to miss out then Liverpool are set to turn to Andy Lonergan who also recently joined the club on a one-year deal.

The 35-year-old has made 401 senior appearances over his career but has never played a game in the Premier League.

Asked if Lonergan is ready, Klopp puffed his cheeks and gestured with his hands before replying: "Yeah. Caoimhin Kelleher is now in training as well.

"If we have to make a decision, we have to make a decision."

Meanwhile, Klopp confirmed that Naby Keita will miss the game at St Mary's with a muscle injury.
