Fraudster targets pensioner with Amazon gift card scam as police issue warning

Police have issued a warning to the public after an 84-year-old was targeted by a fraudster with an Amazon gift card scam.

The Coatbridge pensioner was contacted by someone pretending to be from HMRC, who demanded payment of a fine in form of the Amazon gift cards.

The Lanarkshire Police Division are now urging people to be vigilant following the incident.

They say: "An 84 year old Coatbridge resident has been contacted by a fraudster claiming to be from HMRC, demanding payment of a fine using Amazon gift cards.

"Anyone calling you asking for payment in this manner is a FRAUDSTER operating a SCAM.

"Hang up the phone."
