A south Dublin community has been warned after a brazen fraudster scammed a local out of a large sum of money.
The brazen con artist knocked on the door of a Drimnagh resident yesterday pretending to be a cold caller offering gardening services including the removal of a tree.
The scammer demanded over €400 as a deposit which the resident paid, only for the fraudster to never return.
Locals have been warned to be extra cautious when dealing with cold callers as the con artist came prepared with a business name and a flyer.
A warning on the Drimnagh Residents Association page on Facebook says: "We have had a report of a neighbour in Drimnagh bring scammed of over €400 yesterday.
"A 'cold caller' knocked on their door and offered gardening services including the removal of a tree. A deposit was required and they have not returned since payment of the said deposit.
"There was a business name, flyer, etc., etc., (details withheld).
"Never trust a 'cold caller' to your door, always seek professional tradesmen or refer to your DRA membership book for a list of locally trusted tradesmen.
"To be fair, the neighbour involved was suspicious and fully accepts they should have trusted their gut. This post is to help raise awareness."
