Fraudster jailed after swindling more than £128,000 from employer

A man who caused "serious distress and financial hardship" to his employer has been jailed after he swindled more than £128,000 from the business.

Adam Cartwright, 39, of Hazel Hill Crescent in Bestwood Park, started working for B&M Installations in 2011 as an electrician and it was there he began to buy electrical parts the company did not use.

The company, which is based just outside Carrington in Pelham Street, began investigating in October 2018 after a project manager became aware of an invoice containing higher costs than expected for a project they were working on.

Upon the discovery, Nottinghamshire Police's fraud team began looking into Cartwright's business dealings and found him to be buying extra electrical parts across 50 separate invoices.

The parts came to a total of just over £128,000.

Cartwright pleaded guilty to fraud by abuse of position at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, December 19.

He was subsequently sentenced to two years and eight months in jail.

Detective constable Jason Jenkins, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Fraud can have a devastating impact on businesses and it was clear from the outset that Cartwright’s actions caused serious distress to the business owners, as well as financial hardship.

"The sentence clearly demonstrates that we take fraud offences incredibly seriously and will deal with those responsible."
