Fraudster fitted Nottingham cash point with device to steal bank cards

A Wollaton fraudster has been jailed after placing a device on a cash machine in order to steal people’s bank cards.

Vasile Boidachi, of Hambledon Drive, had tampered with the Lloyds cash machine on Bracebridge Drive, Bilborough.

One of the victims whose card was retained had £500 withdrawn from his account.

Boidachi was identified by Nottinghamshire Police on CCTV and arrested in May last year.

He appeared at Nottingham Crown Court last Thursday (July 29), where he was jailed for two months.

It comes just weeks after another man, Marius Raducun, 26, of Roseta Road, New Basford, was jailed for the same offence.

He stole £23,000 after tampering with cash machines across Nottinghamshire, resulting in a two-year jail sentence.

Constable Phil Eddy, who led the investigation, said: "It's unbelievable that Boidachi tampered with a cash machine and thought he would get away with it.

"This is a great example of how we work alongside our partners in the financial sector in conducting a robust investigation, utilising the security methods the banks have in place, which has resulted in a positive outcome for several victims.

"It's horrible to experience a crime like this where money has been wrongfully taken from your bank account.

"Thankfully, most of the money taken was recovered and the victims didn't suffer any financial loss."
