Fraud detectives give update after Liverpool Council worker arrested in raid

Fraud detectives today gave an update after a Liverpool Council worker and another man were arrested during a raid on a plush city centre apartment.

Officers could be seen outside Beetham Plaza on The Strand , across the road from the Cunard Building, on Wednesday afternoon.

Matrix police vans were parked on Brunswick Street before Merseyside Police confirmed that two people were arrested for a range of fraud, bribery , corruption and misconduct offences.

A 32-year-old man, from Liverpool city centre, was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud, bribery and corruption.

During the raid, a 50-year-old man who police confirmed is employed by Liverpool City Council was also arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and misconduct in a public office.

Today Merseyside Police gave an update as the probe continues.

A spokeswoman said: "The two men have been released on conditional bail."
