Fraser starts life under Howe on good terms with Newcastle set to play down winger's Scotland snub

Newcastle United winger Ryan Fraser resolved his differences with Eddie Howe long before his reunion with his former AFC Bournemouth boss.

Fraser revealed in summer 2020 that he'd patched things up with Howe over coffee after turning down a short-term contract extension after lockdown.

The decision from the Scotland star frustrated a Bournemouth team fighting for their life but after being reunited with Fraser, Howe watched on as Fraser took part in training on his first day.

United are insisting that Fraser only played a bit-part role in the session just hours after pulling out of Scotland's warm weather training preparations in Alicante.

Scotland face Moldova and Denmark in their last two qualifiers and are looking to clinch a play-off place.

Scottish FA's leading figures are far from impressed by pictures taken by a supporter of Fraser training in Newcastle training gear at Benton on Tuesday.

Fraser is understood to have complained of a calf strain following Newcastle's trip to Brighton.

And while he didn't play in the 1-1 draw, he took part in a running session at the Amex Stadium with the rest of the unused substitutes.

Scotland boss Steve Clarke is set to address the issue at his Press conference later today.

However, it is understood that Scotland are unlikely to invoke a FIFA banning order to Newcastle which could on paper prevent Fraser taking part against Brentford.

Where it will leave Fraser if Scotland do advance to the play-offs remains to be seen with Clarke monitoring Ryan Gauld of Vancouver Whitecaps for future squads.

Meanwhile, United's senior coach Graeme Jones played an active part in training despite the arrival of Howe and his new backroom team.

Jones had stated he had been assured of his role at Newcastle following the departure of Steve Bruce.
