Fraser Forster transfer latest as Celtic 'hopeful' they can secure fresh loan deal for star keeper

Celtic are hopeful they can secure Fraser Forster on a fresh loan deal for next season - according to a report.

The Daily Mail claim the England international is set to have his Southampton future resolved in the next 48 hours as the Hoops eye a Parkhead return.

The keeper rediscovered his best form under Neil Lennon last season after a difficult 18 months at St Mary's where he was left on the outside looking in.

Alex McCarthy and Angus Gunn are ahead of him in the Saints pecking order and Celtic are keen to secure the services of The Great Wall once again.

The COVID-19 pandemic has left a telling impact on teams ahead of the transfer market but another short-term deal would make sense for a player who still has two years remaining on his current deal with the Premier League side.

Celtic have Scott Bain under contract until 2023 but uncertainty surrounds the future of Craig Gordon with the Scotland international out of contract but no official word on what's next for the 37-year-old.

Last month, Lennon admitted he would love Forster and fellow Southampton loanee Mo Elyounoussi to return ahead of the new season.

He said: "We’re hopeful they’ll be around but that’s a conversation we’ll have to have with Southampton and with the players individually.

“We’d want to keep them if we could. It keeps that continuity going rather than maybe going out and bringing other players in.

“If we could keep the services of those two, they know how we work and what the club is all about. They made really good contributions. Fraser was absolutely brilliant and Moey, up until the injury, was fantastic.”
