Fraser Forster transfer boost for Celtic as star man 'willing' to take pay cut to remain with Hoops

Celtic keeper Fraser Forster is willing to take a drop in wages to remain in Glasgow - according to a report.

The Athletic state the 31-year-old England international could remain with the Premiership champions beyond his season-long loan from Southampton.

Forster has rediscovered his best form under Neil Lennon with his stunning Europa League displays a key part of his side's run to the last 32 of the competition.

His man of the match display in the Betfred Cup Final further enhanced his stock and he saved his fourth penalty this season to secure a 1-1 draw with Copenhagen.

Southampton are well covered between the sticks with Alex McCarthy entrenched as their No.1 and rising star Angus Gunn a more than able deputy.

A host of teams are expected to be interested in Forster this summer with two years remaining on his St Mary's contract.

Forster appears willing to give Celtic a fighting chance to secure his permanent return to Glasgow as he currently earns a reported eye-watering £70,000-a-week from the Premier League side.

Carl Anka, the Athletics' Southampton correspondent, states: “This has been bubbling away for sometime now and Ralph hasn’t given many comments outside “It’s nice he’s doing well, but I’m not focused on him.

“My understanding is Forster is willing to take a pay cut to stay at Celtic, so the chances of him staying in Scotland are pretty good.”

Forster has spoken at length of his love for Celtic and he will be hoping his stirring displays north of the border have alerted England boss Gareth Southgate ahead of Euro 2020.
