Fraser Forster in Celtic boost as Ralph Hassenhuttl breaks silence on Southampton recall

Southampton boss Ralph Hassenhuttl has ruled out a January recall for Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

The on-loan Englishman has been in great form since returning to Parkhead and was the key player as they lifted their 10th successive domestic trophy on Sunday.

His penalty save from Alfredo Morelos was added to a host of other excellent stops to keep his side from conceding against Rangers.

The 31-year-old's performance meant that Christopher Jullien's second-half goal was enough to seal the win despite the French centre-back being offside.

Celtic supporters did worry there could be a break clause in his contract - although Forster himself pured cold water on that scenario.

And now Hassenhuttl has praised his form but insists he'll be sticking with Angus Gunn and Alex McCarthy while youngster Harry Lewis is also in reserve.

The Southampton gaffer said: "First I am very happy that after a long time of not playing he gets the chance to play there.

"He’s a fantastic goalkeeper but for him it was important to play and get games and self confidence back and I’m very happy for him.

"At the moment we don’t think about that, we’ve got our three goalkeepers here and his loan is until the end of the season. It’s not the moment to think about that."

Forster immediately restored himself as first choice for Neil Lennon after making his move from Southampton.

He previously spent four years at the Hoops over three spells, including two loan deals.
