Fraser Forster gives Celtic transfer boost as he 'opens door' to potential move

Fraser Forster has given Celtic a boost in their bid to sign him after he turned down a new contract at Southampton.

The big goalkeeper is reportedly unimpressed with the offer on the table for him which is a cut on his current deal.

And it means a Celtic move for the stopper could progress if his refusal to sign a new deal sparks a decision to sell him.

The Scottish Sun say the 33-year-old has rejected the bid and Celtic could ‘take advantage’ of the situation.

It comes as current Celtic goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas was again criticised for a blunder between the sticks.

The Greek goalkeeper reacted poorly to a free kick taken by Evander during the 1-1 draw with Midtjylland on Tuesday and it landed in the back of the net.

Forster has had four spells at Celtic Park and Ange Postecoglou has been given the go ahead to sign a new goalkeeper.

Forster’s style isn’t exactly what he is looking for but his shot stopping ability was vital to Celtic’s success two seasons ago and the Hoops badly need a top keeper.

Southampton still want him to sign a new deal but they’re also looking to cut costs and that is why they offered a lower contract for the former England keeper.

And that opens the door for Celtic to make a move for him, although it’s likely he would also have to take a cut to sign on in Glasgow.
