Fraser Forster Celtic transfer 'talks' begin as Leigh Griffiths is wanted by Sunderland

Celtic are set to launch yet another loan bid for Fraser Forster.

The Southampton ‘keeper has enjoyed two previous spells at Celtic Park, one permanent before returning on loan under Neil Lennon during the 2019/20 season.

That was never made permanent despite attempts, and left Celtic in a goalkeeping pickle after Craig Gordon knocked back a reduced deal to return to Hearts.

Vasilis Barkas arrived for £5million but failed to live up to expectations, and now talks have begun over bringing Forster back to the club on loan, according to the Scottish Sun.

They claim that the Hoops will have to pay a third of Forster’s £130,000 per week wages to land him.

Forster is unlikely to feature regularly at Southampton wheres he’d be installed as Ange Postecoglou ’s number one if he makes his return to the Scottish Premiership.

Meanwhile Leigh Griffiths could be heading for the exit with Sunderland thought to be targeting a loan move for the striker.

Griffiths was handed a one-year extension to his Celtic contract earlier this summer but it remains unclear whether he is in Postecoglou’s plans for this season.

He was sent home from the club’s Welsh training camp after claims he sent inappropriate messages on social media to two underage girls.

BUt the former Hibs man was cleared by Police while the club launched their own investigation.

After losing front man Charlie Wyke to Wigan, Lee Johnson was chasing a goal scorer and sees Griffiths as the man who can fie the Black Cats back to the Championship.

They beat Hearts 2-0 at Tynecastle yesterday thanks to an Aidan Mcgeady double.

Postecoglou admitted this week that he hadn’t even thought about Griffiths since news of the allegations against him broke.

He said: “You know how much time I have spent thinking about that? You’ve asked me and I’ve just thought about it.

“We’ll let it run its course and once it’s done and we get back up to Scotland then we’ll deal with it then.

“I’ve not spoken to him."
