Fraser Forster Celtic transfer news as Southampton signing stance offers clue to keeper's future

Any transfer window bingo card worth its salt has Fraser Forster back to Celtic marked on it.

The big keeper has enjoyed two spells at Parkhead and was heavily linked with an extended loan last summer that eventually failed to materialise.

Forster had played a crucial role in helping the club to a ninth consecutive Premiership title but with the prospect of a tilt at 10 In A Row on the table he opted to remain at Southampton.

The 33-year-old played little part under Ralph Hassenhutl last term and The Sun report Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou could look to tempt him back to Glasgow.

It's a development that seems to have split fans, with some choosing not to forget the shot-stopper's decision not to return last summer, a feeling perhaps exacerbated by the difficulties Celtic have faced between the sticks since.

It's a debate with the potential to rage on and on but a report from Hampshire Live suggests it may not get off the ground.

Southampton sold keeper Angus Gunn to Norwich in June but the report states Hassenhutl is not looking at adding another potential number one to his ranks.

The Premier League side still have three keepers in Forster, Alex McCarthy and Harry Lewis.

That Saints aren't in the market to replace Gunn indicates they don't envisage Forster leaving either.

Either way, Vasilis Barkas was a noted positive in an otherwise concerning display against Preston North End on Saturday.

The Greek appears to have the backing of Postecoglou and bringing in another keeper could arguably set him back as he rebuilds his confidence following a disappointing maiden season.
