Man charged with murder after Fraser Coast man dies following fight with men at his home

Officers at the site of the alleged assault at Booral near Hervey Bay.

UPDATE: Police have charged a man with murder after a fight between three men at a home on the Fraser Coast led to the death of a 57-year-old man.

The victim was at a residence in Booral, near Hervey Bay, when two other men arrived about 9:30pm on Wednesday.

Police said a fight broke out between the men, who were known to each other.

The resident suffered significant head injuries and died at the scene.

Police arrested two men in Torquay today.

A 54-year-old Torquay man was charged with murder as well as common assault, producing dangerous drugs, supplying dangerous drugs and possessing anything used in the commission of a crime.

A 46-year-old Point Vernon man has also been charged with producing dangerous drugs.

Neighbours reported hearing a commotion before police arrived.

"I saw the police walk around the yard with torches. I thought, that's strange … and then this morning more turned up," neighbour Bob Cohen said.

Mr Cohen said he had lived in Booral for decades and the incident was out of the ordinary.

"It's a very friendly neighbourhood. I've lived here for 26 years … it's very quiet, people usually stick to themselves."

The 54-year-old accused is due to appear in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court this afternoon.

The 46-year-old is due to face Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on October 8.
