Frantic search launched for Team GB fell runner who went missing in Perth and Kinross

The worried family of a Team GB fell runner have launched a frantic search after he failed to return home after going for a run.

Chris Smith, 43, was last seen Invervar near Aberfeldy, Perth and Kinross, at around 3pm on Tuesday when he headed off.

The dad-of-two said he was going running in Meall nan Aighean, Carn Mairg and Carn Gorm and was expected home at around 5pm.

Chris' cousin Ruth McKee took to Twitter to appeal for help in tracing him.

Sharing a missing persons poster, Ruth wrote: "My cousin is missing after going for a run in Glen Lyon is Perthshire yesterday.

"He's an experienced fell runner and could have become disorientated and ended up further afield.

"Please share."

His disappearance is believed to have sparked a search-and-rescue operation involving Police Scotland, mountain rescue teams and the Coastguard.

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
