Frankie Edgar willing to fight Conor McGregor any time, at any weight

Despite recently announcing his move down to bantamweight, Frankie Edgar says he’s willing to fight Conor McGregor under any circumstances.

McGregor, in his recent interview with ESPN, showed a lot of respect towards Edgar and said that “The Answer” is also near the top of his list for a potential next opponent. The two nearly crossed paths in the past, when McGregor was competing at featherweight, but the fight never came to fruition.

“You know who else is at the top of the list: Frankie Edgar is also up there, right there at the top of the list,” McGregor said. “Because he has similarities to Khabib (Nurmagomedov), runs on the back foot, shoots on the single leg. I want these types of similar bouts, and also Frankie has been very respectful. Frankie has always been respectful. He said that he wanted to say, ‘I want to tell my grandkids that I fought Conor McGregor one day,’ and for me to hear that, ask Dana (White), for me when I hear that, this is going back many months he said that, I messaged Dana straight away and said that’s the fight to make.”

Well, former lightweight champion Edgar (23-7-1 MMA, 17-7-1 UFC) said Sunday on Instagram that he’s willing to fight McGregor (21-4 MMA, 9-2 UFC) at any weight class.

“You know I’m down to fight @thenotoriousmma it should have happened a long time ago. I know I’m going down to Bantam weight but for you any weight class will do. Anytime any weight class you know I’m game.” @danawhite @seanshelby

Edgar is coming off a unanimous-decision loss to Max Holloway at UFC 240, failing to capture the featherweight title for the third time. Edgar, 37, will be looking to find new life in the bantamweight division. But should a potential fight with McGregor arise, a fight he’s always wanted, he’ll be ready to go.

Just say the word.
