Frankie Devlin's son pays poignant tribute to Cork mum after body found in missing person search

The family of Frankie Devlin have been left shattered after her body was found on Wednesday afternoon.

Mrs Devlin, who lived in Ballinacurra, Midleton, Co Cork, had not been seen in the Garryvoe area since Saturday evening, October 5.

After four days of extensive searches the body of the 67-year-old was located and has now been removed for a post-mortem, Cork Beo reports.

In a poignant Facebook post her son Killian said: "My mam has passed away. We believe this was a tragic accident. A routine post mortem will follow and we will then be able to proceed with the funeral arrangement.

"I’m so sorry to everyone that helped us, searched for us and provided food etc that we didn’t hit the jackpot and bring her home safe and sound. RIP my wonderful wonderful mother. My heart is shattered into a thousand pieces."

Cork City Missing Persons Search and Recovery, who played a key part in the rescue operation, offered their condolences to the family.

They said in a Facebook post: "Today has seen our four day multi-agency search draw to a close. Mrs Devlin was located just after 3pm this afternoon in the Garryvoe area. We would like to pass on the entire teams condolences and wishes to the Devlin family and friends at this sad time. May she rest in peace."

Gardai confirmed shortly after 5pm that a body had been found and the search operation had stood down.

A spokesperson said: "The body of Frankie Devlin, 67 years, missing from the Garryvoe area since Saturday 5th October 2019, has been recovered today Wednesday 9th October 2019. No further media action is required. Thank you for your assistance in this matter."

A fresh sweep of area between Garryvoe and Ballycotton was conducted from early Wednesday morning by a number of different teams, including local volunteers, the Gardai and emergency services.

Frankie Devlin was a mother-of-three daughters and a son - her funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.
