Frankie Dettori wins Bellewstown race in memory of Barney Curley

Legendary jockey Frankie Dettori won the race in Bellewstown on Thursday afternoon in memory of Barney Curley.

The Italian was in action aboard Trueba as he came in first on the 4/1 priced horse,

And the the 50-year-old brought it home in style as he rode for his former weighroom colleague and great friend Johnny Murtagh.

Dettori is one of the most decorated jockeys in history and in the Gannons City Recovery And Recycling Services Ltd Supporting DAFA Handicap, with all monies raised donated to Curley's charity, Direct Aid for Africa (DAFA)

Curley passed away earlier this year and was closely associated with Bellestown racecourse and Detorri travlled to participate and win the seven and a half furlong contest.

Meishar came in at second priced at 9/2, while fellow joint favourite Red Heel came in third place.

Dettori was a long-time friend of Curley, who looked after a number of jockeys over the years, including Jamie Spencer and Tom Queally.
