The owner of Frankie & Benny's have reportedly told staff 'a large number' of restaurants will not reopen again after lockdown.
According to an email seen by the BBC, owners of the chain said many sites are "no longer viable to trade and will remain closed permanently".
The Restaurant Group added that "the Covid-19 crisis has significantly impacted our ability to trade profitably, so we’ve taken the tough decision to close these restaurants now".
The message was reportedly sent to managers in its Leisure Division, which includes more than 200 Frankie & Benny's restaurants across the country.
There is currently one Frankie & Benny's venue in Glasgow, at the Quay, with nine more in the Greater Glasgow area, including the restaurant at Silverburn.
It has not yet been confirmed which Frankie & Benny's sites will be affected by the latest news.
The BBC said The Restaurant Group has declined to comment.
The group, which also owns Chiquito and Wagamama, currently has around 22,000 staff on furlough.
Glasgow Live reported last year that the group had begun to look to exit a number of Chiquito and Frankie & Benny's venues after posting hefty losses.
Back in 2019 they announced plans to make 150 closures - - over a six-year period. It then said it would close 90 restaurants by the end of 2021, blaming 'various headwinds, such as increased property costs' damaging the casual dining sector.
