A high-speed train carrying 500 passengers was evacuated in Frankfurt after a bomb threat.

The train was travelling from Zurich, Switzerland, to the German city of Kiel when it was halted by police at Frankfurt Sued station.

Police said they received the threat by phone at about 2pm local time (1pm GMT) on Friday.

Officers also cleared two platforms at the station, in the south of Germany's financial capital, before searching the train with sniffer dogs.

A police spokesman said officers did not find anything suspicious on board and had given the all-clear.

Passengers then returned to the train, and were able to continue their journey.

The train had just left Frankfurt's main train station when police received the hoax call.
