Frank Warren explains Josh Warrington has rejoined Eddie Hearn over Kid Galahad rematch

Frank Warren claims he has split with IBF featherweight champ Josh Warrington because he did not want to promote his rematch with Kid Galahad.

Warrington has returned to Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom stable and Warren says he was unwilling to bankroll another fight with Galahad because their first clash in June was a dull flop.

Warren’s deal with Warrington had expired and the clincher for him was the IBF ordering the Leeds fighter to defend next against Galahad after the Sheffield fighter won a final eliminator.

Warren said: “Our contract was at an end with Josh and we could negotiate a new one.

“But the bottom line is the IBF have put the fight out between him and Kid Galahad and that’s not a fight which excites me after the last one.

“I made it very clear after the last fight when I said ‘who would want to watch this again?’.

“I believe that will be his next fight, but I’m not interested in that fight, end of story.

“We did everything we said we would do for Josh. Everything I said I would deliver, I delivered for him and we had some great times together.

"I wish him well.”

Warrington became his city's first male world champion when he beat Lee Selby to claim the title at Elland Road in May 2018.

He subsequently overcame two-weight world champion Carl Frampton in a 'fight of the year' contender before an edgy points win over Kid Galahad.

Hearn said: "I'm ecstatic to welcome Josh Warrington back to Matchroom.

"We had some amazing times helping to build Josh in Leeds and now we reunite at a time when he is the king of the division. "
