Frank Vogel made ‘strong impression’ on Lakers, expected to talk again

The Los Angeles Lakers have apparently found another candidate whom they like for their head coaching job and the two sides are expected to continue discussing the position that’s been open for nearly a month.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ohm Youngmisuk reported that former Pacers and Magic head coach Frank Vogel made a ‘strong impression’ on the Lakers front office cohort, signaling that the two sides will continue to talk about the job. Vogel, of course, was a name connected to Ty Lue’s coaching staff before talks with Lue and the Lakers eventually broke down.

After Lue felt insulted by the Lakers only seeing him as a coach for LeBron James by giving him a three-year offer instead of a five-year offer that he thought he deserved as a championship head coach.

Vogel had a very good run as the head coach of the Indiana Pacers, helping them get to four consecutive postseasons and five postseasons out of his six seasons he coached them to a 250-181 record (.580). His 2013 Pacers team also forced LeBron’s Miami Heat to a Game 7 in the 2013 Eastern Conference Finals. He didn’t fare as well during his two seasons in Orlando, going 54-110.
