Frank Vogel is the latest to praise Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee

Throughout the first few days of training camp, the talk of the team hasn’t been the two biggest stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but a host of newcomers that they added to the team in the summer. And two of the guys who have gotten the most recognition so far in camp are ones who have a couple of the most clearly defined roles on the 2019-20 Los Angeles Lakers: JaVale McGee and Dwight Howard.

The Lakers centers were brought into the team to give them depth but also to help Anthony Davis avoid major minutes at center during the regular season. They’ve gotten an early shout out from LeBron James and after Tuesday’s practice, head coach Frank Vogel followed suit by crediting them with raising everybody’s level of play.

“JaVale’s performing at a really high level,” Vogel continued. “Dwight Howard has been all business since he came in this time around. We’re asking our whole group to have a seriousness about ourselves. He’s been an all-business type of guy. It’s really helped us to be focused and working on the task at hand.”

The two centers have gotten quite a bit of shout-outs and it appears that could make for a tough decision for Vogel when it comes to starts and who comes off the bench. But as any NBA coach would tell you, that’s always a better problem to have than not having enough quality players to choose from.
